Well-known are the Obernburg and Niederburg. These two castles represent the history of the area, which was controlled by two power blocks.
The Obernburg belonged to the electorate of Trier, the Niederburg and most of the surrounding municipalities were part of Luxembourg. In fact, it used to be the most easterly point of the Southern Netherlands. In 1815, these areas were allocated to Prussia.
